famous poker playerA metro man has beaten the odds not only in the game of poker, but in life, KMBC’s Dion Lim reported. “It was hard for me to rationalize to myself to keep working eight hours a day for the boss, sitting in a cube all day,” Aaron Wilt said. Lim reported that about a year ago, Wilt, a successful computer programmer, decided to give it all up. “It was not very fun, or very interesting,” Wilt said. “I was making more money playing poker part time than my full-time job.” Wilt now goes by the name “Wilt-on-Tilt” in the online poker world. He plays professionally and coaches others. “It’s not like pulling a slot machine. There’s a vast amount of strategy, skill, math and psychology. There are a lot of important skills that take work to get good,” Wilt said. Wilt’s passion is not just about the money, but a way for him to give back. “I had Hodgkin’s lymphoma and because of my fight with cancer, we’ve always been a big supporter of St. Jude’s,” Wilt said. “My students offer to donate money, too, and I match what they donate.” Wilt is now cancer-free. Lim reported that he has raised thousands of dollars for St. Jude’s.women poker player
